So. David got a call from JAG Headquarters in D.C. This morning. They wanted to know if we had any objections to being sent to Hill AFB in Utah. It is in between Salt Lake City and Ogden, about thirty miles north of Salt Lake. I thought it was weird they were asking us if it was okay, especially since it was on our preference sheet and since the Air Force isn't known for making sure assignments are "okay" before they assign you, but hey, whatever! We're going to Utah! Or at least that's the plan for now, so I'm going with it! I've learned over the last couple years that things do change in the Air Force, but I'd like to hope this assignment will stick!
I was really hoping for a foreign assignment, preferrably somewhere in Europe, but as David told me where we are going, I felt such a sweet, calm peace. I know we are headed to exactly the right place. I have no doubts about that, and I'm really excited! I have faith that we will land in Europe later in our career, and it will be nice to live there when all the kids can wipe their own hineys and bathe themselves. I think that will make travelling while there much easier!
I have visited Utah several times, and I'm very excited to live near the mountains with so many outdoorsy opportunities. I'm excited to live in a place that has so much to do for small children. It will be different being a majority as far as religion is concerned. Being Mormon, I've been a minority all my life, so this will be a definite change. In the entire town of Montgomery there are three Mormon churches; in Utah, there is one on every block! I'm excited to be have a temple just minutes away instead of hours away. And an IKEA! I'm only 45 miles from an IKEA! I hope living in Boston through two winters has prepared me for all the snow. I've never done snow every day with kids. That is possibly the only thing I am not looking forward too.
I've done a little looking at housing, but am not going to waste too much time on it now since we don't move for another six months. Our housing allowance goes up a little, but the houses are so much better for the money there. And they have nice privatized base housing as well. There are tons of options! That's something we didn't have a lot of here; housing options.
So, that's the latest news from us! We have several friends in Utah so that will be nice to be able to connect with them...I'm excited all the way around to head to the Beehive State!

Lacy said she saw something on FB today about this and she is totally bummed ya'll weren't there when she was living there. I know you'll love it there. I'm glad you found out..I thought it would be next month!
Wow, we get to be neighbors again! I am about 10-15 minutes from base. (And my mom is realtor if you want help house hunting.) Very exciting news, Congratulations!!!
I'm so excited! You said this might be a possibility one day and how awesome that the day is here (kind of, hopefully). I think you are right on with your thoughts on this assignment. Europe will be cool one day. It will be much easier and cooler when you have kids old enough to really travel and do things and remember it. Utah really is a great place for a family with young kids. Everyone has them so there are so many fun and affordable things for kids. We'll have to take you on some good kid hikes next summer. The mountains really are the best part of living here. Being LDS in Utah is definitely different than anywhere else - good and bad. We really like our ward though and have had a lot of opportunity to serve.
I'm just so happy for you and can't wait for you to get here!
If you turn into a Utah mormon.... it's all over! :) Glad you're happy about the change!
How exciting for you guys! If you need some outdoors adventures you can always come and visit us in Wyoming! We're only 4 hours away! :)
Oh, Lilah and I have to figure out a way to come visit you. I want to start my quest to visit all 50 states :-)
Oh wow!!! That's awesome! I read your title, and expected to see that you were planning a visit to Zion. But nope -- even better. Congrats!! I hope these plans stick (I sympathize with you on the unpredictability of things). The best part (in my opinion) about living in Utah is that EVERYONE in the church makes their way to UT at some point or another. So, it's nice to stay connected... like, we'll probably be down next summer for a week or so. Fun!
Also, if you need any help with housing, I do have a friend who is a great real estate agent. And another friend who lives really close to the AF base. Just let me know!
It ain't Seattle, but it's closer than NM! I'm so excited to have you a one-day's drive away!
I love you, girl!
