I'm thankful for a husband with the imagination and energy to do fun things for our kids that I know will leave them with lasting impressions and memories. I try, but most of the time, and especially at the end of the day, I am short on both imagination and energy, just to name a few.
For FHE on Monday night we were teaching the kids about Lehi's vision of the Tree of Life in the Book of Mormon. For those who don't know the story, you can click here to read about it. So we get to the part where Lehi is describing a rod of iron in his vision that kept him on the straight and narrow path that led to the tree of life (lots of symbolism in this vision). Instead of ending it there, David goes out to the garage and comes back in with rope. While the kids and I stay in the living room, he concocts this rope maze of sorts using chairs and the high chair and other things to tie this rope too leading from one end of the house to the other. Then he turns off all the lights in the house and takes the kids to one end of the rope and tells them that even though they can't see, if they will hold onto that rope, or the figurative "iron rod", it will lead them to their destination safely.
(Ethan has the "deer-in-the-headlights" look here because it was literally pitch black dark and I am snapping pictures around him!)What was waiting for them at the end of their journey? Why Klondike Cookies and Cream ice cream bars of course!

The vision is implying that there's a "right" path to take in life and a "wrong" path, one leading you toward God and one leading you away from God. If we cling to that "iron rod" in our life by doing what is good and right, it will lead us to peace and happiness because we are walking in the direction God would have us go. That's the message we were trying to teach our kids. And I don't know about you, but nothing says peace and happiness to me like a Klondike bar!

How awesome! David should have been a high school teacher. LOL
Great idea! Go David!
I actually did that on my mission with our new member class. It was awesome! They loved it! They didn't get a Klondike though.
By the way. Nick is fine!
Are you sure there is nothing wrong with him??? ;)
